Run/vote/support Candidates for Political Office
Running, voting, or supporting candidates for office that have sensible policies related to AGI is one way of getting such policies implemented. Another way is to Lobby.
Such candidates, may or may not win, but even if they lose, they can serve to advance policies on the countries political agenda, and may cause other candidates to adopt the same policies.
A possible danger of such candidates is they could politicize the policy response, causing opposing candidates to take extreme opposing positions. Contrasting the successful technical response to the ozone hole due to CFCs and the unsuccessful technical response to climate change due to CO2 shows the dangers of politicizing the policy response. However, it might be the case that the changes that are going to be necessary for AGI are so large that it is impossible to avoid politicizing the issue.
